CSAF Recommendations:
• “I’d encourage people to keep a focus on the role of financial governance and Sarbanes-Oxley. It’s easy to focus on the accounting principles, but being able to apply them to the decision making and governance was a big part of the exam” by Eric Elliott, CSAF
CRCR recommendations:
• “My recommendation is to make a quizlet or notes with questions asked during quizzes and also from the summary” by Carol Jiwan, CRCR

I am excited to share with you a little bit about Gevin Dray, one of our newest certified members and volunteers. Gevin is currently pursuing his Master of Healthcare Administration degree from Texas State University where he is expected to graduate in May 2022. He maintains a 4.0 GPA, while holding multiple leadership roles in various academic and professional organizations. He is the School of Health Administration Representative for the College of Health Professions Council of Student Leadership, Volunteer Coordinator for Texas State University’s Healthcare Leadership Coalition, a Student Associate with the American College of Healthcare Executives, and soon to be Student Liaison for the South Texas Chapter of The Healthcare Financial Management Association.
Gevin focuses on effective and efficient ways to assist his professors in their daily activities which include hospital affiliation agreements, research papers, and miscellaneous projects as a graduate instructional assistant. During his undergrad at Texas State University, Gevin studied biology where he learned life processes at all levels-molecular, cellular, organismal, ecological, and received valuable clinical skills. His desire to pursue a career in direct care shifted toward a focus on indirect care once he found himself excelling in his business administration minor coursework. His business mindset, with a desire to help others, has led him to the field of healthcare.
Since Gevin joined the South Texas HFMA Chapter in early 2021, he has taken advantage of our Certified Revenue Cycle Representative certification and is currently working on the Certified Healthcare Financial Professional certification. Soon Gevin would like to participate in our mentorship program and increase his knowledge and competencies by completing additional certifications. Gevin would like to utilize HFMA events and activities to expand his professional network in the South/Central Texas Region. He hopes to create meaningful connections which will lead to life-long friendships and wonderful memories as he begins his professional career.
We are very lucky to have him! Welcome to the team Gevin.
