A few comments from some of our recent certified members:
“I sought out this certification because I was looking to learn more about Managed Care and become more knowledgeable in my career field. I needed something that would make me more of an asset for my community and with all the struggles we face in healthcare, I wanted to be more valuable for my organization. This certification is one way I felt I could do that. To be completely honest I had no idea how to study for the exam. I made flash cards out of all the questions asked during the modules and the key points at the end of each module and I studied those. I am also working on my fellowship from the ACHE. My goal is to always strive to improve my skills and become the best professional version of myself.” – Katrina George, CSMC
“I was motivated to complete this certification given I have been in the industry 10 years and wanted to ensure my colleagues and customers knew I understand their business and challenges. Given our corporate membership, I wanted to take advantage of the opportunities that came with it. As far as studying, I printed out the key concepts guide and wrote down important terms, metrics, topics that I was not already well-versed in. Writing things down on paper after reading always help with retaining information when I study.” – David Tucker, CRCR
I am excited to share with you Ryan’s accomplishments during the summer. Ryan McDonald, CRCR, CSBI, Finance Intern at Clarity Child Guidance Center, completed two HFMA certifications in the past couple of months. When I reached to Ryan for some tips to help other members, this is what he shared with me:
“I decided to complete this certification to increase my knowledge in healthcare finance and analytics which is directly related to my requirements for my current accounting position. For someone new in the healthcare industry as myself, I would recommend obtaining the CRCR certification first. From my understanding of the CSBI course, the main point was how to streamline operations that are effective not only on a financial level but a patient-oriented level as well. The CRCR course made the key points in the CSBI course easier to grasp. For someone who has worked in the healthcare industry, the study guide, key points at the end of each section, as well as the checkpoints at the end of each section would be excellent tools. The course had an excellent layout from beginning to end.”
I hope Ryan’s accomplishments motivates you to complete your certifications! CRCR and CHFP continue to be the most popular certifications but there are many other available free of charge. If you are yet not certified, consider enhancing your career and industry knowledge.
