John has been a valued member and major contributor of the HFMA South Texas Chapter over the years. After being involved in an accident last August, many of you have asked how they can help. His family has set up a GoFundMe account to cover some of their expenses, as insurance only covers a portion of the care he needs. To learn more, please read the letter from John’s daughter below. Thank you, The HFMA South Texas Board GoFundMe April 30 Update Hello, all! As we inch into summer, we know so many of you are itching for an update. Robin has rearranged her life and relocated to be in Dallas at the rehabilitation almost full time. Meanwhile, John is continuing to improve and capabilities grow every week. He is responding well to rehab therapy and is fully ambulatory. Although he has not spoken yet, we are encouraged by his progress, attitude and strength. There is a long journey ahead, but he is well on his way back. We are continuing to limit visitations while he undergoes intense physical and mental rehabilitation, however we constantly update John to let him know of all those who continue to pray for his full recovery. Thank you all for your continued love, support, and encouragement during this time! Created November 27, 2018 Many people know John Knighten as a friend, a business professional, a mentor. Many know him as the life of the party, the loudest laugh in the room, the dorky dance…
June 1, 2018 Dear HFMA South Texas Colleagues, I am truly honored to have the opportunity to lead this wonderful group of healthcare and business professionals. HFMA, and specifically the members of our South Texas Chapter, are some of the best people that I have the pleasure working with. I look forward to the stewardship that you have entrusted to me for the 2018-2019 fiscal year. Thank you to Dave Korn for his excellent leadership of our chapter for the past two years. His commitment, leadership, and friendship are invaluable. Year over year under his guidance, the South Texas Chapter has continued to improve and adapt to the rapidly changing healthcare environment whilst providing value to our members. I look forward to working with my fellow incoming officers, board members, committee co-chairs, past presidents, volunteers, and business partner sponsors this year as we continue this positive pathway for our chapter. Our chapter leaders are committed to continuing to provide 1) quality education programs, 2) meaningful networking events, 3) best in class HFMA certification training, and 4) innovative solutions to best communicate the numerous resources that HFMA has to nourish your professional and personal goals. We understand that our mission is to support you, our members. Your feedback and opinions are a critical component. Please continue to provide us with your thoughts on how the chapter can be the best possible resource for you. Moreover, our chapter “It takes a village” approach means that in addition to your thoughts and ideas,…
Dear HFMA South Texas Colleagues, It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your 2017-2018 President. I can’t believe how quickly the time goes. I was just starting to get the hang of this president thing and we are through with our fiscal year. First, I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the many people who made it possible for the South Texas Chapter to continue to succeed. To our sponsors, none of this could be done without your support, THANK YOU! To the officers, board, committee chairs, co-chairs and volunteers, I am grateful for the time and talents you all continue to contribute. To the past presidents, your support, encouragement and advice has meant more than you know. It takes an inspired team to coordinate and facilitate the programs and initiatives we deliver and I am lucky to be a small part of it. The chapter counts on you, the members, to continue to voice areas of improvement needed to meet today’s healthcare challenges. We count on you to get involved. If you have suggestions or are interested in taking a more active role in the chapter, please let your board members know. Please join us at an upcoming event, in August our Summer Institute, will be held in Austin with the Central Texas Chapter of ACHE. Dear HFMA South Texas Colleagues, It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your 2016-2017 President. I can’t believe how quickly the time goes. I was just starting to get the hang of this president thing and we are almost through our fiscal year. First, I would like take this opportunity to recognize the many people who make it possible for the South Texas Chapter to continue to THRIVE. As we look back on this past year, we held fantastic educational and networking opportunities for our members-most recently, Healthcare Landscape 2017, our annual joint conference with the South Texas Chapter of ACHE and the Greater San Antonio Healthcare Foundation. The speakers included Mary Mirabelli, HFMA National Chair and Vice Admiral Raquel C. Bono, United States Navy, Director, Defense Health Agency, Medical Corps. The HFMA Texas State Conference was back in Austin this year with great educational sessions and a networking event at Maggie Mae’s on 6th Street that bowled people over. Dear HFMA South Texas Colleagues, Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2017 is a year full of good health, opportunities, success and fun. As I get older I can’t believe how time goes by so fast. We are halfway through our fiscal year and it feels like we just started. As we look back on the last three months, the South Texas Chapter continues to THRIVE! We had a fantastic Region 9 meeting in New Orleans in November. Thanks to John Montaine and David Glazener for representing South Texas on the Region 9 planning committee. If you missed it, you missed a great time. Also, our Leadership Forum was held Jan. 20 at the Blanton Art Museum in Austin. The meeting was filled with interesting healthcare and leadership topics. The Forum ended with a guided tour of the museum and a networking event at Sholtz Beer Garten. I want to thank Chairman John Knighten and the program committee for all its hard work. We ask you to invite a colleague to join HFMA. We include the membership goal, set by National, and progress in each newsletter so you can see how we are doing. Please help us meet our membership goal by renewing your membership or sponsoring a colleague. This can be done online at www.hfma.org/membership. Membership satisfaction is also tracked. Thank you to those who took the time to complete the membership satisfaction survey. We value your feedback! We have many exciting programs scheduled in the upcoming months. Healthcare Landscape…
Dear HFMA South Texas Colleagues, Fall is here and that should mean leaves changing and cooler weather but that is not the case in South Texas. What it does mean is football, so whether you follow high school, college or professional football I hope your team is having a successful season. This fall a much more vicious sport is taking place, the presidential campaigns. I for one am glad it is nearly over. Remember Nov. 8 is Election Day, please get out and vote. As we look back on the last three months, the South Texas Chapter continues to THRIVE! We are coming off of two very successful joint meetings; the HFMA/ACHE Summer Institute held Aug. 25 at the Seton Administration Offices in Austin and the HFMA/TAHFA Fall Symposium held Sept. 12-13 at the Embassy Suites Riverwalk in San Antonio. Both meetings were filled with education around trending healthcare topics as well as plenty of networking opportunities. I want to thank Chairman John Knighten and the program committee for all their hard work. I also want to thank Lisa Keffer and Robbie Connell for an outstanding networking event held Sept. 10 at Top Golf in San Antonio. If you missed it, you missed a great time. If you have not renewed your membership, please take a moment to do so. You can renew online at www.hfma.org/membership. Being a member has advantages including free national and regional webinars, great educational sessions, fun networking opportunities and a variety of other valuable resources. Please…
Dear HFMA South Texas Chapter Colleagues, I am honored to serve as President of the South Texas Chapter for the 2016-2017 year. I want to thank the membership for the privilege of leading the chapter this year. I also want to thank outgoing President, Clint Owen, for his dedication and innovative ideas over the last year. Clint has set some very high standards, demonstrating what it takes to lead with passion and commitment. As a testament to Clint’s and last year’s board’s leadership the South Texas Chapter was awarded four awards at last month’s ANI Annual Chapter Awards Dinner — A Multi-Chapter award for the Region 9 networking event; A John M. Stagl Silver Award of Excellence for education; A Bronze Award of Excellence for membership growth and retention and a Helen M. Yerger Award for membership. As our new year begins the one thing that stays constant is change! Our chapter has, and will continue, to make significant changes to ensure we deliver — what you — our members need to be successful both personally and professionally. With a strong board, officer team and committee volunteer base, I am confident we will continue to be an indispensable resource for our membership. I am excited to tell you about a couple of new offerings: We now have a South Texas Chapter smartphone app! The app will enable you to communicate with chapter members and get real time/interactive information from the chapter. You can search the app stores for “hfma south…
As your 2015-2016 President, I have been honored to assist in leading the chapter to achieve great success in delivering value to our chapter members. The time, like most things, has passed oh so quickly and it’s truly hard to imagine that my leadership as President has come to an end. However, I have grown so much having been involved for so many years and plan to do so moving forward. The value one can gain within HFMA is sometimes unmeasurable from education, leadership skills and most importantly the ability to truly impact and be impacted by great relationships forged over time and life lasting. Our goal this year was to continue to build upon the foundation that previous leadership has engrained in each of us. The South Texas Chapter has done an incredible job in accepting all the changes we have undertaken this year to better enrich each members experience within HFMA. As I stated from the outset, we would be making significant changes to better serve our members with new locations, new website, new chapter administrative support with DeMarse Meetings, thought provoking education and most of all more FUN! Yes, we have met some challenges but the overriding fact remains you the membership like what we are doing and with each and every event it is reflected in your evaluations. The National Theme this year was, “Go Beyond”, and we have and continue to do that. Coming out of HFMA LTC this year the theme is, “Thrive”! I…
Here we are once again, another year quickly passed and winter setting in. Holidays bring about a slower time to celebrate family, work, life in general and be thankful for what we have. During this time I always ask myself, how did we get here so fast, where did the time go, followed by, did I accomplish any or all my goals I set personally and professionally? I’m sure for most that’s a common theme within your work place or home as we all are busier than we used to be it seems. As I like to say, “Another day another opportunity”! The South Texas Chapter is hard at work on our calendar of events for 2016, wrapping up the final speakers and initiating the format for future events. We are excited about the future and what is being delivered to our membership. Our goals this year were to foster a more diverse offering of education, instill more fun/networking into the regional events and position the events within our membership region that allows for more of our colleagues to join us and experience the difference HFMA provides them in their careers. The Board of Directors recently met for our annual Mini-LTC in San Antonio to discuss how the chapter can better serve our membership, gauge where we are in delivering on our national and regional metrics. We identified a need for more social events involving not only your peers but your families. We see this as an integral part of…
